The Holt

This is an unmissable opportunity to visit the private garden at The Holt.

The classic William & Mary style house, dating from 1687, sits comfortably at the heart of its estate, surrounded by a recently restored parkland landscape. Since 2005, extensive work has been undertaken to create a clear overall structure, with renowned landscape architect Kim Wilkie designing an elegant and dramatic landscape. Highlights include a grass amphitheatre with a striking zig-zag path, a large spiral mound at the centre of a ‘patte d’oie’ axis of five avenues, and a Pool Garden with a black canal-like pool and herbaceous beds.

Enjoy a logical route around the garden, taking in the amphitheatre, spiral mound, avenues, round pond, new lime avenue and restored Love Temple. Follow the path through the Pool Garden, apple orchard, meadow, and finally into the Kitchen Garden, which retains its original structure but features vegetable plots, greenhouses, a young pear orchard, 57 varieties of espaliered apples, and long lavender hedges. Mixed borders around the perimeter walls and a growing collection of old shrub and climbing roses add to the garden’s charm.

Lunch is included at the garden, making this an exceptional outing for garden enthusiasts.
